Edward Samsons & Co. (Urban Development and Disaster Risk Reduction Consultants); Established 1987.

Dr Ojo is the Founder and Managing Partner of Edward Samsons & C0 (Urban Development  & Disaster Risk Development). The firm which  was established in 1987 only commenced urban and planning consultancies’ in 1993 after Dr ojo resigned his appointment as a Senior Town Planning Officer with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Lagos in 1991.

UN/ISDR Global Champion Geneva, 2011,

In recognition of his achievements in advancing urban planning and disaster risk reduction issues in Nigeria and ECOWAS Subregion in the last 30 and 14 years respectively, Dr Ojo was appointed by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) Geneva in 2011 as a Global Champion to promote the “Making Cities Resilient Campaign in Nigeria, 2010-2015”

Disaster Risk Reduction Specialist

Dr. Ojo is a specialist in the mainstreaming disaster risk reduction and climate related issues into national development policies; and the promotion of resilient cities against disasters. Towards that end, he served as Assistant Director of Relief and Rehabilitation of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) the coordinating government Department for disaster risk reduction in Nigeria from 2001-2005; Deputy Director 2005-2009 and retired voluntarily as a Director in June, 2010 from NEMA.

Seasoned Consultant

Between  2018-2020,  Dr Ojo was appointed by UNICEF to Mainstream Disaster Risk Reduction into Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in 8 States of Nigeria. Between July and December 2015, he was also a Consultant to the  World Bank engaged to develop the new “ECOWAS Disaster Risk Reduction Programme of Action.

Dr Ojo also consulted for UNECA, Addis-Ababa to Assess DRR Activities in the ECOWAS DRR Subregion. He also consulted for the UN Habitat led Urban studies in Osun state and a few other parts of Nigeria., and July/2014

MAINSTREAMING DISASTER RISK REDUCTION INTO WATER SANITATION & HYGIENE- UNICEF, WASH 2018/2020

According to UNICEF reports, Poor access to improved water and sanitation in Nigeria remains a major contributing factor to high morbidity and mortality rates among children under five. The use of contaminated drinking water and poor sanitary conditions result in increased vulnerability to water-borne diseases, including diarrhoea which leads to deaths of more than 70,000 children under five annually. Between 2017-2020, Dr Ojo the Managing Partner of Edward Sampsons & Co  was apoointed as a consultant by UNICEF to Mainstream Disaster Risk Reduction into Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in 8no States of Nigeria ( i.e Adamawa, Plateau, Ekiti Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Rivers states

As a Co-Project Coordinator with Professor Bola Ayeni (GIS & Urban Expert) supervised the Establishment of Data Centre with GIS, Web site for National Physical Development Plan contracted by the Federal Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (2011-June, 2012).

Founder's Education and Family Life

From a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Geography to a Ph.D. in Geography in 1990 at the University of Ibadan, Dr Ojo went further on to obtain professional Masters’ degree programs in Urban Development Planning form the Development Planning Unit, University of London, UK. Dr Ojo is currently the Managing Partner of Edward Sampson’s & Co (Urban Development & Disaster Risk Reduction Consultants) which was registered in 1987. Dr Ojo is happily married with children
